Title	BUXTON CORPORATION
Description	Formed in 1851as a limited company, this undertaking was reincorporated by Act of Parliament in 1870 as the Buxton Gas Company and was purchased by the Local Board of Health in 1871. The works at Bridge Street alongside the railway and river Wye were enlarged when adjoining land was purchased at Ashwood Dale in 1873. The new works were completed in 1879.The works passed to Buxton UDC and then Buxton Corporation. In 1949 the undertaking became part of the Peak Group within the NWGB. The works were finally closed in 1987. This collection contains only photographs and two finance ledgers.
