TitleFARNWORTH AND KEARSLEY GAS COMPANY
DescriptionFormed in 1854 by AoP the Farnworth and Kearsley Gas Co built a gasworks on Bolton Rd and the former supply from Bolton ceased in 1855. It took a number of years for the FKGCo supply to reach Kearsley and by 1868 a further Act was obtained to increase capital and extend the area to include Outwood, parts of Little Hulton and Little Lever and Stoneclough. In 1878 the works were enlarged and in 1903 unsuccessful approaches were made by Farnworth and Kearsley UDC to take over the company. The UKGC acquired the undertaking in 1926 along with undertaking of the Radcliffe and Little Lever Joint Gas Board. The two works were combined to form the Radcliffe, Farnworth and District Gas Co whose headquarters were in Radcliffe. By 1941 the gas supply was wholly from Radcliffe and the Farnworth works were closed down. FOR RECORDS SEE NW:RAF
