TitleDARWEN CORPORATION
DescriptionIn 1838 the Over Darwen Gas Lighting Co was formed and the company was incorporated by AoP in 1840. Gas works were built on Charles St and soon required extensions. In 1854 additional land was purchased and the area of supply increased. In 1873 the Local Board purchased the undertaking along with the water company. The works were reconstructed again in 1885-6 and in 1932. In 1949 the undertaking vested in the Blackburn - Accrington Group of the NWGB There are only three items in this collection: a booklet on the gasworks, a photograph and an Act of Parliament. [1855 - 1933]
